UPDATE: Vintage Original Trilogy Collection R2-D2
Posted by Dustin on October 22, 2004 at 09:43 PM CST:

I finally found these online at Walmart.com the other day and ordered two. I've been looking forward to this figure since it was first announced. While it is a very cool figure there are several things that could have been done to make it even better.

First off the packaging is top notch. I can't believe Hasbro finally gave in and decided to give a nod to the vintage line that hooked us all in the first place. Using the original artwork from the Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi vintage cards definitely takes you back in time. Enclosed in a special clam shell "star case" of sorts for extra protection this piece is one I will cherish for some time to come.

Once freed from his plastic prison the first thing I noticed and was not happy with was the fact that the middle leg does not fold up, so this figure will always be a tripod, in one pose. I feel they could have pulled this feature off if they had tried a bit harder. Secondly the panel that holds the extension arms falls off very easily. Perhaps if the peg and hole system used to secure it was a bit deeper that would solve this problem.

Two things I was not expecting were the pop up sensorscope. This feature is activated when you turn his head. The other surprise was the working wheels on the bottom of his feet. Very cool bonus there!

Overall I love the figure but wish they would have gone balls to the wall and done it absolutely 100% right. Hasbro has come a long way over the years though, and this line proves it.

Click the thumbnail above for a great gallery of images both carded and loose!

UPDATE: Well apparently I didn't look close enoughat the third leg on R2-D2 because according to my buddy Jim Abel it is removable! This means more versatility in play and display for this figure! Gotta give it a full 5 stars now! ;-) I took more pics after finding this out so check em out!
