R2-D2 Movie Props!
Posted by Dustin on November 1, 2008 |

While at Star Wars Fan Days 2, I attended a movie prop collecting panel by Gus Lopez. Check out some of the cool R2-D2 movie prop pieces he's got in his collection. I'm jealous, but thankful I was able to handle and view these great items up close. Enjoy the photos!

Episode I Book Display
Posted by Dustin on February 13, 2005 |

Here's a nice Episode I book display piece I picked up at The Earth a while back. It's made of pretty think cardboard and has an image of R2-D2 on each side. The books go in the middle part there ;-)

Episode I Eraser Set

Can't really recall where I picked up this item but I think it was in a "free" box at a local OSWCC meeting. It's your basic eraser set. Pretty lame but still cool because it's one of those things not everyone went for when the Episode I marketing blitz hit in 1999.

Episode I Filmstrip
Posted by Dustin on October 1, 2004 |

Before Lucasfilm fully embraced the concept that people actually wanted his films on DVD, they were released on VHS (Video Home System). To entice collectors and fanatics even more into buying the "deluxe" version they would sometimes include a pack in or added bonus. The above filmstrip is a perfect example of one of these gimmicks. Included in the Episode I deluxe VHS boxset were actual pieces of the film itself. This one happens to feature R2-D2. I found this on eBay for about one dollar. Enjoy!

Kellogg's R2-D2 Mini Bust
Posted by Dustin on March 6, 2004 |

This piece comes from a set offered through Kellogg's cereals promotion in Europe during Episode I. The set included 9 characters total. They were Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi Wan Kenobi, Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, Anakin Skywalker, Boss Nass, R2-D2, Jar Jar Binks, and C3-P0. I picked up a full set for only $5.00 roughly before S&H on ebay!

More From Episode I
Posted by Dustin on January 18, 2004 |

The marketing of Episode I was spread across such a large variety of items that we were able to buy just about everything imaginable. There were so many products that many "completist" collectors threw up their arms up in defeat and simply got what they thought would enhance their own collections. A perfect example of over marketing is today's entry in the Data Bank. While someone, somewhere thought this product was simply the next big thing, others decided it was not. I grabbed this Episode I R2-D2 Neck Purse off of eBay.com for only a few bucks.
